About My Practice

My name is Janie Odem, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, (LPC) and Registered Play Therapist, (RPT). I have been a therapist for about 10 years and absolutely love what I do. I am excited that you have found my website! My passion is helping hurting people!

I offer effective outpatient, individualized, psychological care. I provide a neutral/safe space to individuals, families, couples, and children ages 4 years and older. I also offer teletherapy upon request.

I often jokingly tell people, “I didn’t have to read the books, I lived it.” My life and work experiences have enabled me to become the compassionate, empathetic, and non- judgmental therapist that I strive to be.

I am a true believer in the Holistic Approach to counseling. Wellness comes from treating the whole person: physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional health. A healthy diet, regular exercise, rest, and yearly medical check-ups are vital to staying mentally and physically healthy. I practice self-care with regular exercise, yoga, piyo, and golf in my own life.

My experience includes counseling with individuals, families, couples, children, and adolescents. I counsel in the following areas:  Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), suicidal ideations, grief, relationship issues, marriage, divorce, stress and anger management, addiction, just to name a few.

I work with children and adolescents in areas of school problems, ADHD, bullying, self-esteem issues, Depression, Anxiety, eating disorder, self- harming, career counseling, coping skills, divorce, and family issues.

I hold a Master of Education in Counseling from the University of Houston, Victoria, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (R.N., BSN) from Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi.

I am a retired Nurse, VISD School Teacher, and School Counselor. I am bilingual and fluent in Spanish.

I utilize a variety of counseling techniques including, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person Centered Therapy and Child- Centered Play Therapy.

If you are struggling today and need help, know that no problem is too difficult and together we can find hope in a safe, comfortable, and non-judgmental environment.

It is time for self-reflection

Knowing you need help is one of the first steps toward healing.

What is the work needed to make a relationship work?

I can tell you with complete certainty, that love is not going to be enough to save your relationship.

How your emotions change the shape of your heart

"A record of our emotional life is written on our hearts," says cardiologist and author Sandeep Jauhar. In a stunning talk, he explores the mysterious ways our emotions impact the health of our hearts -- causing them to change shape in response to grief or fear, to literally break in response to emotional heartbreak -- and calls for a shift in how we care for our most vital organ.

The Easiest Way to Improve Your Relationship
